The New Year Starts NOW!

Add a Comment

Blog NOW 1We are only weeks away from 2012 and I have a feeling that this will be a year to remember for those who are committed to making lifestyle changes when it comes to the food we eat, the amount of exercise we perform, the stress relief activities that we engage in, and the allocation of time for self-reflection. The reason I have decided to compose this blog post for all of you today is because the NEW YEAR starts RIGHT NOW! What I often find is that people tell themselves they are going to begin a “diet” in the New Year, start working out in the New Year, become more conscious with their family in the New Year, create a business in the New Year, seek help for an addiction or disorder in the New Year, and the list goes on and on. I am sure that every single person who is reading this blog post can relate with the concept of making a change in the New Year that never actually takes place. The result is just another year of unfulfilled goals, debilitated dreams, and a person who is no different this year than the last. But if you are truly committed, and your WHY is more substantial than your HOW, then the time is here to start the New Year Resolution process.

As a culture, we often put things off until “tomorrow” because just the thought of taking action on something that happens to be plaguing our existence is a task that we would rather address at a later date. The problem which arises is that “tomorrow” never comes because we consistently tell ourselves that we will start the process on the tomorrow after tomorrow. What you must realize is that once you think about something that needs to change, there is NO BETTER TIME to begin the implementation method then at that point. This is the same for your New Year Resolutions because we feel the pressure to proclaim what we are going to do differently this year once the clock strikes midnight, only to awake the next morning without the insatiable desire which is necessary to have a change like this take place. I do not believe that this is a universal dilemma, but I do believe that it is as close as you can possibly get to negatively impacting the lives of everyone. Whether the tasks we need to accomplish are petty and mundane, or the goals that we set are critical to the way we live our lives, ACTION must be taken, rather than PROCRASTINATION, to affect a change.

These next few weeks will provide you with a foundation to grow from during 2012 and beyond. If you doubt this strategy, or you do not intend on following it because you believe that “this year will be different,” I encourage you to answer this question…

HOW COULD IT HURT TO START THE PROCESS EARLY?

Blog NOW 2If what you have done in the past has not provided you with the results you were looking to accomplish, then it is time to change what you do in the present so that your future will be drastically different. My goal with this blog post, like all blog posts, is to educate, inspire, and then compel you to take action so that your life can transform into what you have always desired for it to be. We have seen amazing changes take place at our practice when it comes to the health of each individual that we work with because we become your accountability partner and CHANGE is the only byproduct that we will accept. Therefore, maybe your resolutions have to do with your relationships, your lack of diet or exercise, the amount of time you spend with your children, breaking a disorder or addiction, starting a business, writing book, etc.; regardless of what they are, I want you to understand the NEW YEAR STARTS RIGHT NOW!

Therefore, I would like to wish you a HAPPY RIGHT NOW NEW YEAR!

Learning to Receive Acknowledgements – Happy Thanksgiving!

Add a Comment

ThanksgivingAs Thanksgiving is on the horizon, we wanted to take a moment and say thank you for making everything possible. Our mission in practice has always been to help our community become one of the healthiest places to live in the country, so that our children can grow up in an environment that provides a foundation for a life of vitality. Although this movement will still require a dedicated effort from all of us, I truly would like to express my personal gratitude for all that you have helped us achieve. With this being said, this blog post has nothing to do with me, but rather everything to do with all of you. I admire your courage to become pioneers in this process and for making the choice to recognize the importance of your health. Our country is faced with a healthcare crisis, but personally, I believe that this predicament can be solved within our community by means of education, inspiration, and then feeling compelled to take action.

Can you imagine an environment where children would learn about fitness, nutrition, stress relief, self-esteem, and goal setting during their formative years so that it becomes part of who they are as they progress in this world?

Can you imagine living in a community where people recognize there is an alternative to medication and instead take a proactive stance when it comes to their health?

And can you imagine living your life without any limitations developing due to poor health or preventable disease?

I know this is possible and I want to thank you for the opportunity to support you on this quest.

Many of you may not understand why I feel this intense sense of gratitude for those who have visited our practice and began this process, and many of you might struggle accepting these acknowledgements because human nature tends to reject recognition because of our difficulty in receiving praise. But I am here to inform you that the ACT OF RECOGNITION, for yourself and for others, should become part of your daily routine as you never know how far a good deed will travel. In this scenario, the “good deed” is simply acknowledging people, and yourself, for all of the wonderful contributions that are brought into the world. What I often find is that we rarely take the time to inform our network of family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and ourselves about how fortunate we feel to have them in our lives. This could be a parent, loved-one, child, friend, CPA, chiropractor, librarian, supermarket clerk, etc. What if you became 5% more conscious of the people in your world and provided 5% more “communicated appreciation” for all that they do?

This blog post obviously ties into Thanksgiving where everyone is able to celebrate their gratefulness for the people in their world. It is a time when families get together, stories are shared, and recognition is in the air. But like everything I do, I want this Thanksgiving to be different than the prior years because I do not want it to come to an end on November 26th. I do not think that there should be a particular twenty-four hour time frame where we express how we truly feel; and instead, we should make the conscious effort to include this routine on a daily basis. But in order for this strategy to have the far-reaching effect that I believe is possible, we have to learn how to receive gratification.

A perfect example of this concept occurred just the other day when a patient visited the practice and said, “I have never felt better in my life and I truly owe it all to you. The chiropractic adjustments, advice, and sense of support has really made all of the difference for me.” My immediate reaction was to shift this sense of recognition back to the person who delivered it, but what I realized is that this individual wanted to GIVE ME THE GIFT of a “Thank You,” so I accepted.

The point I am stressing is that when people approach you and express how much you mean to them, accept their gratitude because otherwise, they may stop offering it. Thanksgiving is a time to give and RECEIVE thanks and I want you to focus on the receiving because once you master this area of your life, you will begin to live with an even greater sense of self worth and be proud of the person who looks back at you from the mirror.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and please accept my complete and utter gratitude for believing in what we are looking to achieve at our office.

Do You Desire to Be Well?

Add a Comment

Right For YouIt seems as though the word ‘wellness’ is everywhere these days. There are tons of wellness products and wellness services available to cure virtually any kind of ailment, lifestyle disease, or to relieve stress, etc. But did you ever contemplate the word, ‘wellness’ and what it actually means to you, and even more importantly, how one actually achieves it?

The way that I personally define wellness, I know this is different for everyone, is:

Wellness is the degree to which an individual experiences health and vitality in any dimension of their lives. Where dimension can be defined as physical, biochemical, and emotional.

So, with that being said, wellness is not a fad, or something that we achieve in our lives, but instead it is a way of life, or what I like to call, a lifestyle. There is unfortunately a misconception that being “well” requires hard work and sacrifice, but what I encourage you to realize is that the only reason you may consider this decision to be challenging is because it is NEW. Think back to when you first learned how to ride a bike or drive a car, the anxiety that may have surfaced was probably overwhelming, but this was only because the activity was NEW for you. I know that you no longer consider either of these undertakings as difficult in the least bit because you have learned how to adopt them into your life. The same will happen with the concept of “being well and staying well,” but the only difference is that the result is far more significant than any car or bicycle, because the outcome is directly correlated to LIVING a healthy and vibrant life.

The reason that our office utilizes a wellness model when it comes to empowering people to make the necessary lifestyle changes is because it is our mission to

LogoEducate, inspire, and then compel people to take action when it comes to their health so that our community becomes one of the healthiest places to live in the country."

It has become abundantly clear that the healthcare crisis extends far outside the scope of anything that can be resolved within the world of politics, which is why we need to play our part in order to become educated and more aware of how our lifestyle choices directly correlate to our overall level of well-being.

I hope this message inspired you to spend a few moments today in order to assess your life from the perspective of reaching for your full potential. If for some reason you feel like you might be falling short when it comes to your physical activity levels, your diet, or from the stress that you experience on a daily basis; then I would be honored to help you find a solution. Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions or concerns and if you know anyone who resonates with our mission, then I encourage you to share this message with them as well.
