Introducing Charles City Chiropractor, Dr. Gillian Biggerstaff
The first time it happened I was still in Chiropractic College, it was so scary. I didn’t know what was happening. I didn’t know if I’d get better. Every medical doctor that I went to couldn’t figure it out. The thought actually crossed my mind that I might be dying! Chiropractic saved my life then, that was eight years ago. Then it happened again, just this year. This time it was different and much worse than before. Once again, the medical community didn’t have any solid solutions for me.
I have been blessed; I have had years of training and experience. Once again, Chiropractic and the Wellness Principles that I talk about every day were the key to me regaining my health! I believe that God gives us exactly what we need so we can be what He intends us to be. Helping us learn the tools (sometimes through others) we need to accomplish His will. This simple truth and my own heath experiences have transformed the way that I care for my Practice Members. Ever since day one as a Chiropractic student, this has shaped who I am. I see Chiropractic and the Wellness Lifestyle transform and literally save lives every day! I have experienced it myself – twice!
I attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. It just made sense to me, I’ve been an Iowa girl almost my whole life. What a privilege to learn my profession where Chiropractic was born over 100 years ago! When I first started college at Palmer, it really surprised me – the intensity of it all. I had attended South Dakota State with a major in Biology so I was used to studying full time. When I got to Palmer, we were told of how we would have double the class load in a trimester, oh yea, and go year round! The class that I was most nervous about turned out to be one of my favorites. Actually studying the inside of the human body up close was amazing. To see how we are all knit together – and to think, it almost kept me from going to Chiropractic College in the first place!
My goals in practice are to help everyone reach their true health potential. Each of us is born with that ability. It is our life and all of the negative stuff – trauma, thoughts, toxins, and spiritual disconnect which hold us back. Chiropractic and a Wellness lifestyle can set each of us free. It is up to you on how much of it you want. How far do you want to go with your health? I choose all the way. My first month in practice, I had a mother of three whose career was making Native American dream catchers and candles. Only she hadn’t been able to do her trade for years due to a neck & shoulder injury. After a few short months of intensive care, what did she carry in to me? A dream catcher! The first one she had been able to make for a very long time. I still have that dream catcher today – I even put it in a shadow box to preserve its beauty. To me it symbolizes the wonder of our bodies healing ability and the power of the Chiropractic Adjustment! She took a chance and her body healed. Yours can too!
My husband is Joel. We have two amazing boys, Jackson and Caiden. They are truly our Joy. Joel and I are not sure what we did for entertainment before kids, but we have plenty of laughs and fun now! We love being outside and spending time together. The boys are taking up soccer this year and Joel is going to try his hand in coaching. We are all involved in our church, Bethany Alliance Church here in Charles City. I help out in “Bullfrogs & Butterflies” the preschool room on Wednesdays. I also am a member of MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers, and enjoy spending time with my new friends that I have met there.
When you stop in you may see my family in the office for their regular “tune up.” We all get adjusted at minimum twice a month. We don’t believe in covering up our symptoms with medications. I know fevers are there for a reason, and it is not to make the medication manufactures more money. It is our body’s defense mechanism – kind of like a street sweep. A fever will clear out all of the garbage, it is a good thing! We also support our diet with high quality supplements, drink purified water, exercise and enjoy each other’s company. We do this and more because we know we are only given on life and what we do with it is up to us.
